EWEC road section: Eindu-Kawkareik Road Improvement Project opened

With the objective of regional and road transportation sector development, connected Hpa-An District and Kawkareik district of Kayin State, Eindu-Kawkareik Road Improvement Project opening ceremony was held at the pandal of the road section in the morning on Saturday in line with the COVID-19 preventive measures.

Present at the occasion were the Union Minister for Construction U Shwe Lay, Chairman of Kayin Administration Council U Saw Myint Oo, members of Kayin State Administration Council, senior officials from the ministry of construction, state, district and township level officials, responsible persons from the organizations and local people.

At the ceremony, the union minister said that Eindu-Kawkareik Road Improvement Project is the road linked Hpa-An District and Kawkareik district of Kayin State and a part of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) East-West Economic Corridor. Moreover, it’s also a part of the India-Myanmar-Thailand Road. Along the GMS East-West Economic Corridor, the road section of Vietnam, Lao and Thai has been completed in Asian Highway Standard Class-2. This Eindu-Kawkareik Road section just remains to be upgraded to provide year-round access and to be Asian Highway Standard Class 2. The Eindu-Kawkareik Road Improvement Project is the road flowing largest trades with neighboring Thailand. Thanks to the good road transportation, it will bring the rapid trade flow and reduce the transportation charges for the regional and international vehicles.

Next, the Chairman of Kayin State Administration Council explained that due to upgrade Kyon-Doe jetty circular road that is a part of the project, it will beneficial for the cutting time and cost for the commodities flow from Thailand, Lao and Vietnam to transport through the waterway. Then, a local resident extended words of thanks.

Afterwards, the Union Minister U Shwe Lay, chairman and member of Kayin State administration council, Director-General of Road Construction Department U Hla Tun Oo opened the Eindu-Kawkareik Road Improvement Project by cutting the ceremonial ribbon and inspected the asphalt-concrete road by walking over it.

The road of Eindu-Kawkareik Road Improvement Project is the one connected Hpa-An District and Kawkareik district of Kayin State, a part of the GMS East-West Economic Corridor linking Vietnam, Lao and Thailand with Myanmar and has upgraded in Asian Highway Standard Class-2. Eindu-Kawkareik Road section is constructed as an asphalt-concrete road and has a length of 64.735 kilometers with two lanes which 3.5 meters wide and pavements which 1.5 meters wide on each side, it’s learnt.
