Eradicating Online Scams: Detainment of illegally entered foreign nationals

The government has been accelerating efforts to eradicate online gambling and scams in collaboration with local and neighboring countries' forces.

Joint departmental task forces in regions and states are actively participating in the elimination of online gambling operations and prevention of illegal entry by foreign nationals. Acting on a tip-off, joint forces comprising security personnel, administrative authorities, and departmental officials conducted an inspection of buildings located southeast of Mae Htaw Tha Lay Village in  Myawaddy Township of Kayin State on Saturday. As a result, 43 Chinese nationals, 1 Philippine national and 1 Thai national were seized at a building and residential areas located 2,500 meters southeast of Mae Htaw Tha Lay Village.

Likewise, 27 Chinese nationals at a building and residential areas located 2,800 meters southeast of the village and 10 Chinese nationals, 1 Malaysian national, 1 Philippine national, 1 Thai national and 1 Vietnamese national were seized at a building and residential areas located 2,700 meters southeast of the village. The detained foreign nationals are currently being held in the township, and the necessary records and personal information are being compiled.
