




As droughts are declared in several parts of England, the scorching temperatures continue to drop reservoirs, rivers and groundwater.Water levels in aquifers across England are exceptionally low as the country registers its hottest summer on record.
At the end of July, the Environment Agency said water levels were below normal in several monitoring sites - and especially low in the Cotswolds, South Downs and Yorkshire Wolds.
Dr Toby Willison, Director of Environment, Southern Water said "We're monitoring it very closely. You know, we'll be prepared to react with, you know, hosepipe bans or, you know, things like that, if needs be. I think what's (of) more concern for us is the longer term, you know, it's the impacts of climate change.
Climate scientists have been surprised by the speed at which temperatures in Britain have risen in recent years and the widespread area affected by the heat.Millions in the UK have faced a ban on the use of hosepipes, and 15 million more around London will face such a ban soon.
