Energy Sufficiency : Centennial Celebration of Thanlyin Oil Refinery

40th Anniversary Ruby Jubilee of the Ministry of Energy, Centennial Celebration of Thanlyin Oil Refinery and Inauguration of the Energy Museum was held at No.1 Oil Refinery in Thanlyin of Yangon Region on Wednesday, with the attendance of Acting President and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.

After formal opening of the Energy Museum, the Acting President unveiled the stone inscription, and took a tour of the exhibition booths of the museum. In the subsequent event, the Acting President formally opened the 40th Anniversary Ruby Jubilee of the Ministry of Energy and the Centennial Celebration of Thanlyin Oil Refinery, followed by the performance of the students from National University of Arts and Culture.

In his speech, the Acting President hilighted the crucial of the ministry which fulfill the needs of fuel, the blood line for development of the nation in successive eras, since the time of ancient monarchs. He also praised the ministry's efforts for exploring new offshore oil and gas projects and oil fields while re-operating the old oil refineries, and petrolchemical plants and fertilizer plants at their full capacity.

In addition, the existing oil fields have been upgraded with the use of modern technologies in cooperation with the ethnic entrepreneurs. The Acting President also acknowledged the efforts of the experts and staff who contribute their skills for development of energy infrastructure in the successive eras.

He urged all to continue efforts for energy sufficiency and energy security of the nation while striving for sustainable use of energy. Established in 1985, the Ministry of Energy has now reached its 40th anniversary. Likewise, the Thanlyin Oil Refinery was built in 1925, hundred years ago.

The new oil refinery was upgraded to the facility that can refine 500,000 tons per year, and the Phase-1 operation will stard soon. It will be extended to refine 3 million tons of oil per year in the Phase-II.
