


The 40th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) and Associated Meetings, hosted by Cambodia are being held from 15th and 16th September through video conferencing and Union Minister for Energy U MyoMyintOo participated in the meetings.
Energy Ministers from the ASEAN member states and dialogue partner countries, officials from ASEAN Secretariat, the ASEAN Energy Center and international energy organizations and delegates attended the meeting.
The meeting discussed 2021-2025 (ASEAN Plan of Actions for Energy Cooperation- APAEC Phase II (2021-2025)) cooperation areas such as energy security in the ASEAN region, expanding the natural gas pipeline network, upgrading the electric power network system, upgrading of coal and clean coal technologies, effective use of energy and energy saving, increasing in the use of renewable energy sources, better energy policy and planning, further cooperative plans among ASEAN member states and ASEAN and partner countries/organizations in urban nuclear energy technology and basic infrastructure development and work programs and the Joint Ministerial Statement (JMS) of 40th AMEM was issued.
As the Associated Meetings, the ASEAN and U.S. Energy Ministers Meeting, the ASEAN and International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Meeting and the ASEAN and International Energy Agency (IEA) Meeting were held simultaneously, cooperation plans on energy sector, policy and work programs were discussed and the 7th ASEAN Energy Outlook and the 2nd ASEAN Renewable Energy (RE) Outlook drafts were approved.
The East Asia Energy Ministers Meeting and the ASEAN+3 (China, Japan and Korea) Ministers Meeting will continue on 16th September. Likewise, the ASEAN Energy Business Forum – AEBF and the ASEAN Energy Awards ceremony was held where Union Minister U MyoMyintOo announced the list of companies that received medals in the respective energy sectors.
