Emergency aids and relief items: Emergency aids and relief items donated ASEAN handed over

Two C-130 military aircrafts and B737-800FCargo flight, carrying the emergency aids and relief items including temporary rain shelters, tarpaulins, family kits and medical supplies over 34.69 ton in total worth estimated price of USD 107,064 donated by the ASEAN Member States for the victims of Cyclone Mocha in Myanmar, have landed at the Yangon International Airport this afternoon.

This first batch of the emergency aids and relief items were handed over by Mr. Lee Yam Ming, Executive Director of the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management (AHA Centre) to U Aung Win Thein, Minister of Social Affairs of the Yangon Region Government,U Ko Ko Naing, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, U Zaw Phyo Win, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the responsible personnel of the Disaster Management Centre (DMC).

The Handover Ceremony was also attended by Ambassadors from Singapore and Vietnam, and Heads of Missions and Representatives from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines and Thai Embassies of the ASEAN Member States based in Yangon.

In the coming days, more assistance from ASEAN to the Cyclone victims will be arriving to Myanmar and the estimated value of ASEAN’s assistance including the first batch is around USD 1.65 million. Those emergency and relief aids will be transported to Myanmar from the warehouses of the Disaster Emergency Logistics System for ASEAN (DELSA) in Subang, Malaysia and Chain at, Thailand using military aircrafts from Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand.

ASEAN is providing the aids and relief to the Cyclone victims by ASEAN’s policy “One ASEAN, One Response”, by upholding Union Government’s policy of “No one is left behind in providing the aids and relief”, state and regional governments and the concerned Ministries are coordinating and working around the clock under the supervision of the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), and are also in full collaboration with the AHA Centre and relevant international organizations to effectively provide necessary aids and relief to the Cyclone victims.
