Elephant 'Trompita' celebrates 64th birthday in Guatemala

Trompita, an Asian elephant rescued from a circus in 2008, celebrates her 64th birthday at the Aurora Zoo in Guatemala with a giant cake topped with her favorite fruits and vegetables.

The pachyderm, whose species is endangered, enjoys watermelon, grass, bananas and sweet potatoes, while "the special ingredient is popcorn, which she likes a lot", says Animal Welfare Officer. Trompita was born in 1961 and has been a central figure at La Aurora Zoo since 2008, when she was transferred from a circus.  The festivities included a special fruit cake and a gathering of zoo staff and visitors who sang "Happy Birthday" to honor her.
