Implementations are underway to install Telemetry devices on buses in Yangon to protect passengers from Pick Pocketeers and robbers as well as to report accident to the YRPT Control Center.

Previously, Panic Buttons were installed on every bus to report dangerous situations to the control center of YRPT. Through the Telemetry devices, the Control Center can also monitor the bus speed, careless driving, wrong-way driving and bus stopping for a long time at bus stops.

Lyan Cin Mang, Joint Secretary, YGN Region Public Transport Committee, said " There are now over 3,880 YBS buses installed with Telemetry devices. And, we have been working to install the devices on the rest – we will try to ensure that all the YBS buses are installed with Telemetry devices. Telemetry device has a two-way system from the driver to the Control Center and from the Control Center to the driver – it’s all about safety."

In Yangon Region, installing of telemetry devices on buses began in 2017 – there are 654 drivers who were taken legal actions in line with the laws for overspeeding, careless driving and wrong-way driving.
