






With the theme “Keeping Humanity Alive,” the celebration of World Red Cross Day took place in Nay Pyi Taw on Wednesday.
This annual event, observed on 8th May each year, commemorates the birth anniversary of Henry Dunant and marks the founding of the Red Cross movement. Since its inception in 1948, this day has been dedicated to honoring the selfless contributions of philanthropic volunteers around the globe.
Kyaw Myint ,Magway Region Red Cross Association, Head, said "I attended today's commemoration ceremony as an honorary member of the Red Cross Society, having recently turned 65 years of age. I have been a member of the Red Cross Society since my student days and have continued to serve as a volunteer up to this age. I truly appreciate being recognized by both the state and society. I also take great pride in this recognition."
The event also saw recognition for outstanding achievements, with prizes awarded to winners of essay and poem competitions.
Phyo Oat Win, Kamayut Township Red Cross Association, Member, said "I won first prize in Myanmar Essay Competition and third prize in English Poem Competition. I portray the work undertakings of the Red Cross Society and its affiliated associations based on my practical experience."
Swe Thet Khaing, Myeik Township Red Cross Association, Member, said "I won first prize in English Poem Competition. My poem was composed based on the 7 basic principles of the Red Cross Society. I’m very proud to become a Red Cross member."
The ceremony further included exhibition booths showcasing the remarkable endeavors undertaken by the Red Cross and its affiliated associations in commemoration of World Red Cross Day.
