The construction works of Thanatpin Bridge of Bago District has now been 46% completed – construction of this new ferroconcrete bridge started in October 2021, according to the Bridge Department of Ministry of Construction.
The Thanatpin Bridge on the Bago-Thanatpin-Khayan-Thanlyin over the Sittaung Canal is designed to be 240 feet long and 40 feet wide with 2.7 meters of water clearance. It can withstand 60 tons of loads.
Tin Ko Oo, Junior Engineer-2, Department of Bridge, said " The former bridge was an old wooden one built 30 years ago. We are now building a new reinforces concrete (RC) bridge because the old bridge was small and it caused traffic jam in town. The new bridge will have 2 traffic lanes and it will bring smooth transportation. For the current transportation, we built a temporary bridge nearby. Piers of the new bridge are 80 feet high so people can use the water way freely."
Construction of the Thanatpin Bridge will be completed in the fiscal year of 2022-2023 - not only small vehicles but also large vehicles from the Thanlyin-Khayan Side of Yangon Region can use it. Upon completion, the socio-economic lives of local people and the transportation of goods flow will improve.
