Education Sector: Over 990,000 students to schools in Ayeyawaddy Region

For the 2022-2023 academic year, the basic education schools across the country were opened on the 2nd of June. In Ayeyawaddy Region, there are over 990,000 students going to schools in 26 townships and the percentage is 96.17.

Education Officer, Ayeyawaddy Region, Tin Hlaing said "In Ayeyawaddy Region, there are 2,208 basic education schools, 155 monastic education schools, 20 private education high schools – in total, 7,283 schools are opened this year. Starting from June 2, school children who are aged between 5 and 12 and totaling over 480,000 children were vaccinated against COVID-19. In this academic year, the government gives text books, exercise books and other needs for the students free of charge. The government will also give school uniforms for the primary students free of charge."

Headmaster, B.E.H.S No. 2 (Pathein), Kyaw Win said "At my school, there were 982 students in the previous 2021-2022 academic year. For this year, our school has still been accepting the enrollment – for now, the number of students who finished enrollment is over 1,260."

Parent, Zarni Phyo said "I’d like to say ‘Thanks’ to the government for the COVID-19 vaccination programme for students and hand washing campaign at schools. I’m glad to see the children going to school happily this year."

From May 6 to June 2 was set the school enrollment days across the country.
