Following the deaths of three women that sparked protests, Ballarat has become a focal point for combating gender-based violence.

In response, local initiatives are promoting change, including a workshop at St. Patrick’s College where Year 8 boys are learning to challenge harmful behaviors. In partnership with Ballarat Community Health, police and other services, the workshop encourages these boys to think about the kind of men they want to be, emphasizing respect and the importance of healthy relationships.

The initiative is part of a broader effort by the Victorian government to address violence prevention, particularly targeting young people to shift mindsets early on. Educators see this as the start of a larger conversation on tackling gender-based violence.
