A ceremony for the retirement and adoption of 15 service dogs took place on Wednesday in the central courtyard of the Quito Metropolitan Control Agents Corps main barracks in Ecuador. The Quito Metropolitan Control Agents Corps is a municipal police department in the capital city that has teams of human and canine agents.

In the midst of sadness and joy, the guides gave their companions to people who adopted them and promised them a good home. Throughout their career, these dogs participated in activities such as search and rescue, public presentations highlighting their skills and abilities, and assisting people with disabilities, in addition to conducting patrols to ensure the proper use of public space in Quito.

In general, many of those who adopt service dogs are the dog guides themselves, but there's only so many they can take in. That is why a new call was made for the community to come forward if they wish to give a new home for the dogs and provide the care they need.
