Easing COVID-19 Rules: Arrivals of locals and foreign visitors increasing

After suspending international flights for about 2 years due to COVID-19 pandemic, the Yangon International Airport started to resume admission to international flights on 17th April.

As the COVID-19 infection and death rates has declined in Myanmar, international flights are reopened to develop the country’s tourism industry.

Chairman, Union of Myanmar Travel Association (UMTA), Naung Naung Han said "Business visa permission for the entry into Myanmar has resumed since April and the number of visitors’ arrival at Yangon international airport has increased as the visitors are permitted tourist visa now."

There are 9 international airlines in Myanmar which are operating 15 routes. After reopening Myanmar International airlines, the arrival of Myanmar nationals who return to Myanmar and the foreign visitors at Yangon International Airport has increased and about 588 local passengers and 165 foreign visitors arrive at Yangon International Airport daily.

Phyo Wai Yarzar, Travel Agency said "According to the instruction of the Ministry of Health, the passengers have to receive Covid test at the airport and they can go to their desired destinations if they tested negative and they will be quarantined if they tested  positive."

Deputy Director General, Hotels and Tourism Department, Zeyar Myo Aung said "The passengers need to show covid vaccination certificate and must receive Covid test at the airport and fully vaccinated passengers can enter Myanmar."

According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), international tourist arrivals across the world have increased at 30% to 78% in 2022.
