Drug Abuse Control : Central Committee held its meeting in Nay Pyi Taw

The Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control held its meeting at the Headquarters of Myanmar Police Force in Nay Pyi Taw on Wednesday.

Chairman of the Committee Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Nyunt Win Swe attended and meeting and made a speech. The Union Minister discussed efforts to combat drug production, trafficking and illegal chemical imports. He called for stronger cooperation at ports, stricter checks at entertainment venues and hotels, and continued action against drug-related crimes.

The meeting also focused on reducing opium cultivation through alternative livelihoods, improving drug treatment and rehabilitation services, raising public awareness, and strengthening cooperation with international organizations. According to the committee, 58 wanted drug offenders were arrested between 2025 and August 2026 and handed over to the relevant countries. Authorities also reported seizing more than 4.285 billion kyats in 2025 and 3.585 billion kyats through August 2026 from drug-related cases.
