DR Congo warns No vaccine for latest Ebola outbreak

Democratic Republic of Congo health minister warned Saturday that there are no approved vaccines or specific treatments for the rare Bundibugyo strain driving the recent outbreak in the country. Although vaccines exist for the Zaire strain of the Ebola virus, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that this variant currently lacks any approved vaccines or specific treatments.

The agency has also declared it a Public Health Emergency of International Concern which is formal and highest-level status announced by WHO. Due to medical countermeasures are unavailable for this specific strain, local health authorities are relying on traditional containment measures. This includes isolating symptomatic individuals, tracing contacts, and enforcing strict protocols with personal protective equipment to prevent further spread.
