The number of wildfires burning simultaneously in the state of Oregon stood at 39 on Thursday, according to the state Office of Emergency Management. Governor Kate Brown said more than 900,000 acres have burned across the state in the past three days. She told that the exact number of fatalities was not yet known. By Thursday evening, the number of people evacuated statewide because of fires had climbed to an estimated 500,000.

That's more than 10% of the state's 4.2 million population. In southern Oregon, the Federal Emergency Management Agency estimated that 600 homes were burned by the fire that started in Ashland and destroyed through Phoenix, the Mail Tribune of Medford, Oregon reported. At least 16 people have died in the wildfires across Oregon, Washington state and California. At least three of the deaths were reported in Oregon.
