Disaster Risk Reduction: Emergency Management Council Meeting

Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Soe Win is attending the 2025 Belt and Road Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Management Council Meeting and Ministerial Conference held in Hainan, China, from November 5 to 7.

On November 5, the Union Minister met with China’s Minister of Emergency Management, Mr. Wang Xiangxi, to discuss cooperation in disaster response, search and rescue operations, early warning systems, and information sharing.

He expressed appreciation to China for its support during Myanmar’s earthquake response and recovery efforts. The Union Minister also joined a welcome dinner hosted by the Chinese Ministry of Emergency Management. On November 6, the Union Minister attended the Council Meeting, where new member countries including Comoros, Gambia, Georgia, Honduras, Malawi, Tonga, and Zimbabwe as well as UNDRR and ADPC were officially approved to join.

In his address, the Union Minister emphasized the importance of collaboration among member countries in disaster risk reduction and emergency management, aligning with the 2025 theme “A Community with a Shared Future: Building a Rapid and Efficient Emergency Rescue Mechanism.” After the meeting, the Union Minister, together with other delegates, observed rescue demonstrations and firefighting equipment displays in Hainan City.
