Disaster Risk Reduction: “Early Warning and Early Action for All”

Sagaing Region Government held an event to mark the 2022 International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction falling on the 13th of October.

In this event at the regional government office in Monywa Township on Thursday, Chief Minister U Myat Kyaw stressed this year’s theme “Early Warning and Early Action for All”. By 2030, comprehensive hazard early warning systems, natural disaster information and assessments will be significantly increased for everyone.

He stressed the importance of investing in community knowledge and preparedness. Early warning can save many lives – warning in advance within (24) hours can also reduce the subsequent damage by (30) percent. If a natural disaster occurs, the public participation in emergency response and rehabilitation is important, he added.

The event continued with screening the video clip sent by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction and another video clip marking the 2022 International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction. And, the Chief Minister presented awards to students winning in the essay contest for the 2022 International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction before visiting the booth regarding the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction.
