Disaster Mitigation : Ongoing riverbank protection works in Nyaungdon

Ayeyawady Region Chief Minister U Aye Kyaw and officials inspected ongoing bank protection works at locations along the Nyaungdon Island Embankment in Chaung Phyar Village of Nyaungdon Township in Maubin District on Friday.

Officials from the Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department and the Directorate of Water Resources and Improvement of River Systems explained the ongoing measures to protect the embankment from erosion caused by the Ayeyawady River.

The works include placing floating units and sandbags, installing steel cables, dredging sandbanks, constructing a temporary embankment and strengthening the bank with sandbags. The Chief Minister gave necessary instructions for the completion of the works.
