Disaster Management: Union Minister joins meeting of ASEAN Committee

Thailand hosted the 41st Meeting of the ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management (ACDM), the 10th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management (AMMDM) and related meetings in Bangkok from the 17th to the 20th of October.

Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Thet Thet Khine attended the 10th AMMDM held on October 20 which discussed the topic of “Stronger Together in Balancing Action to Enhance Localization for Disaster Resilience”.

The Union Minister stressed the efforts of respective countries in balancing action to enhance disaster resilience in regional countries, natural disasters occurring in Myanmar for climate changes and global warming, application of effective technology and resources for disaster resilience under the guidance of National Disaster Management Committee and humanitarian assistance.

The ASEAN ministers also held meetings with ministers from China, Japan and Korea separately and discussed the cooperation work in natural disaster management with ASEAN and a joint statement on natural disaster management.

The 41st ACDM and its related meetings were held from the 17th to the 19th of October, and the delegation led by Director-General Dr. Ko Ko Naing of the Disaster Management Department attended the events and discussed disaster management of Myanmar, the government’s financial assistance to victims of natural disasters and work plans with ASEAN.
