Disaster management: Mai Pyin Township warehouse and awareness center opened

The inauguration ceremony of the Lancang-Mekong Project's Township Warehouse and Awareness Center in Mai Pyin Township, Kengtung District, Shan State (East) was held at 11:30 on December 15.

The Chief Minister Dr. Kyaw Tun, state minister for natural resource U Sai Leik, state government secretary U Sai thaw Win opened the Township Warehouse and Awareness Center by cutting the ceremonial ribbon and the chief minister and officials sprinkled the bronze inscription with the scented waters.

At the ceremony, the chief Dr. Kyaw Tun said the Shan State is largest among the regions and states. It shares international borders with China, Laos and Thailand. For the mitigation and preparedness of natural disasters in Shan State, 290.33 million Kyats was spent for 23 projects and the Warehouse and Awareness Center in four townships including Pintaya, Mai Pyin, Laukkai and Hopan spending 465.708 million Kyats with the assistance from the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Program were constructed and now the Mai Pyin Township Warehouse and Awareness Center is inaugurated.

During 2022, 297 cases of disasters broke out in Shan State affected over 65000 people from 15000 households and left 91 deaths and 140 injuries. So, the disaster mitigation process and awareness programs will be accelerated.

Next, the Second Generation Construction Company handed over documents related to the Mai Pyin Township Warehouse and Awareness Center to the head officer U Soe Naing of the Department of Disaster Management in Shan State, member of Mai Pyin Township Administration Council U Sai Tun Sein expressed words of thanks and posed for documentary group photo.

Then, the Chief Minister and officials inspected the vehicles and engines at the fire station of Mai Pyin Townshhip and the chief minister provided cash assistance and a responsible person from the station accepted, it’s reported.
