






A ceremony to provide disability allowance to those who have received disability registration certificates was held at the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement on Tuesday.
At the event, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and resettlement Dr Thet Thet Khine said that out of 330 townships in Myanmar, classification of disabilities and disability registration are being carried out in PobbaThiri Township of Nay Pyi Taw Council Area, HlaingThaya Township in Yangon Region, Hpa-An Township of Kayin State and Hopong township of Pa-O Self-Administered Zonein Shan State (South) by designating four initial project areas.
At the ceremony, a total of 19.5 million kyats will be provided to 650 people with disabilities with 30,000 kyats per one including 246 from PobbaThiri Township and 404 from HlaingThaya Township who applied for disability registration in own volition.
From February 2021 to date, a total of 135.441 million kyats have been provided to 39,297 people with disabilities. She also added that the Ministry will conduct to increase 3 billion kyats of capital for the disability rights in cooperation with the Department of Rehabilitation and the Department of Micro finance.
It will be used for the improvement of the social life of the disabled and beneficial tasks of the disabled persons. The 5-year National Strategic Plan for the rights of persons with disabilities (2022-2027) will be introduced and distributed soon.
Later, the Deputy Minister explained classification of disabilities and disability registration work programs and presented disability allowance to ward/village administrators from 15 wards and village-tracts in PobbaThiri Township, HlaingThaya (East) and (West) Townships and disability representatives.
