Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn attended a meeting for development of the Myanmar International Television (MITV) Channel on Monday at Myanma Radio and Television (MRTV) Office in Yangon.

In the meeting, the Union Minister urged the attendees to make efforts for the international community aware of the real situation in Myanmar as the false news about Myanmar is being spread intentionally to put pressure on the country. He also commended the efforts of those who made progress with reforms for the channel.

The Union Minster called for long-term plans to be more effective through a wide range of activities as the role of MITV is very important for the country. Myanmar International Television (MITV) was the first channel broadcast in English in Myanmar since 2001 to help the international community to know the real situation of Myanmar and the development of tourism. In 2010, it partnered with Shwe Thanlwin Media Company to develop the MITV rapidly and more effectively.
