Development Of Fish Sector: Fish Breeding With Floating Cage System Launched

The private fish breeding with the floating cage system on Paung Laung river was lunched with a ceremony in Nay Pyi Taw Zeyathiri Township on Wednesday.

Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Tin Htut Oo said that the Fisheries Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation is encouraging for expanding fish breeding in dams, rivers and creeks including PaungLaung river in Nay Pyi Taw area for the development of fish production until enabling to transport to other regions and states and nearby areas in order to have sufficiency of fish consumption for the locals.

If fish farming is successful by using modern methods, the economy of those involved in the fish breeding production process chain will also develop.

If agricultural and fish products are stored in cold storage and value-added food production activities are developed, Nay Pyi Taw will become a central food zone and farmers, private entrepreneurs and stakeholders are urged to make efforts for fish production.The Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman discussed efforts for the development of fish and meat sectors in Nay Pyi Taw, job opportunities for the locals and improving socio-economic life.

The official of Fisheries Department reported on the prospects for the benefits of fish breeders and fish breeding with floating cage system.

The Union Minister, the Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman and attendees then planted fingerlings into the floating cages of a local farmer who will operates floating cage fish breeding.The fish breeding was demonstrated to those who are interested in fish breeding from nearby villages and fish breeding with floating cage will be carried out along PaungLaung river and the natural waters.
