Dengue Fever Cases: Over 180 Cases Provided Treatment in Mandalay

550-Bedded Children Hospital in Mandalay has been providing treatment to the patients including the dengue fever cases.

Dengue patients have been hospitalized since mid-May, and over 180 patients were provided treatment at the hospital.

Dengue fever is a tropical disease caused by a virus carried by mosquitoes, which usually occurs during the rainy season from June to August.

Medical Superintendent, 550-Bedded Children Hospital (MDY, Dr.Myo Win said “In this year, dengue fever cases have started in middle of May. There are a total of 188 patients at my hospital, and some of them are in critical condition. About 45 patients arrived with Hypovolemic shock. At present, there are 10 to 12 patients with dengue fever are being hospitalized. Most of the hospitalized patients came to hospital after 4 or 5 days of having fever and their symptoms include nausea, vomiting or nosebleeds. Hemorrhagic level-2 symptoms have found in most of the young patients.”

The health officials advise the parents to be cautious for prevention measures as the dengue outbreak season has not over yet.

Medical Superintendent, 550-Bedded Children Hospital (MDY), Dr.Myo Win said “We can’t say that the cases of fever have decreased. We have to wait and see in July and August. Mosquitoes are usually bitten in the afternoon. Parents need to use mosquito net during their bedtime for their children. Dengue mosquitoes are breed in the clean water and people should always take care of buckets, vases and pots in their homes When the children are sick and caused dizziness or vomiting, they should go to nearest hospital as soon as possible.”

The Public Health and Treatment Departments of respective regions and states including Nay Pyi Taw are also instructed to get ready for treatment of dengue fever including the stockpiles of medicines.
