Death toll rises to 30 in Guinea rubbish dump landslide

A landslide at the Dar-es-Salam rubbish dump on the outskirts of Conakry, the Guinean capital, on Sunday has killed 30 people and injured 22 others, according to a statement issued by the Guinean government.

"Since the early hours, significant human and material resources have been mobilized to search for any people who may still be buried, rescue victims and recover bodies," the statement said. According to the statement, operations are continuing on the ground under the coordination of the relevant state services, with the support of the Red Cross, the defense and security forces, medical teams, administrative and local authorities, as well as residents of surrounding areas. Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah visited the site to assess the situation and oversee the mobilization of public services, the statement said.
