Day of Seafarers: Commemoration Ceremony held in Yangon

Myanmar Seafarers Federation organized a ceremony to mark the Day of Seafarers which falls of 25th June.

The commemoration ceremony has been held annually since 2012 in Myanmar, and the theme for this year event is “Your voyage – then and now, share your journey”.

The ceremony was held in conjunction with the opening of newly renovated office of the Myanmar Seafarers Federation.

The office space is located at the Lokanat Building which was constructed by the Jewish Sofaer family in 1906. The building was listed on the Yangon Heritage Trust’s Blue Plaque since it was a century old facility.

The office was formerly used as the office for the Myanmar Seafarers Union from 1974 to 1988, and as the office of Myanmar Seafarers Association from 2002 to 2012.

The renovation has been made with the fund of the Myanmar Seafarers Federation. The office building will also used to hold the knowledge sharing seminar for about three times a week.

Chairman, Myanmar Seafarers Federation, Captain Soe Min Aung said "This Lokanat Building was constructed in 1906 and we made major renovation for long term existence of the office space. The renovation was first made in 2002, and the office has been used since then. During the COVID period, we move to other place, and renovated the office."

During the ceremony, the certificates of honour were presented to the members who contributed their volunteer services of the federation.
