Cyber Wellness: Workshop On Cyber Wellness For The Youth

Workshop on Cyber Wellness for the Youth was held in Yangon on Monday.

Organized by the Ministry of Information, this workshop is part of the project ‘ASEAN-Japan Media and Information Literacy for the Youth’ conducted by the Philippines under the ASEAN Japan Integration Fund (AJIF). Union Minister for Information Dr. Pe Myint attended the workshop and stressed raising awareness of Cyber Wellness issues among the youth of today.

Acting Deputy Director General, Admin (MRTV), Zay Yar said “Ministry of Information invited students from high schools and universities to this workshop. The focus of Cyber Wellness is about helping students to become responsible digital learners. When navigating cyberspace, students should demonstrate respect for self and others and practice safe and responsible use. Students should also be a positive peer influence by harnessing technology for collaboration, learning and productivity for the good of the community.”  

The workshop focused on digital culture and usage of internet in Myanmar, knowledge on media and information literacy for the youth in digital age, cyber crime, cyber bullying, internet addiction, online gaming and prevention of online privacy, as well as digital society and digital security for the youth. The workshop concluded with media and Information literacy talk on Cyber Wellness for the youth.

Panelist, Program Officer, UNESCO Myanmar, Naing Naing Aye said “It's important for the youth to have knowledge of Media and Information Literacy in the digital age and the objectives of Media and Information Literacy. Someone who presumes media must know the access of information and can evaluate, produce and share the information. They also have to apply effectively with code of ethics.”

Panelist, Police Major Nyein Chan Aung said “Cyber bullying is a form of bullying or harassment using electronic means. It’s also known as online bullying. It has become increasingly common, especially among the youth. Cyber bullying is when someone, typically the youth, bullies or harasses others on the internet, particularly on social media sites. Victims can take legal actions.”

Cyber Wellness refers to the positive well-being of Internet users. It involves an understanding of online behavior and awareness of how to protect oneself in cyberspace.
