Hundreds of people including family members and Cuban President attended a vigil on Friday in memory of the 46 victims of a hotel explosion in Havana. One week after the accident, mourners paraded in front of the photographs of the dead on display near the ruins of the Hotel Saratoga.
The explosion was apparently caused by a gas leak from a tanker truck that served the hotel, an emblematic five-star building located a few meters from the Capitol, the seat of Parliament. The incident left 46 people dead and dozens injured.
Cuban authorities have ended the rescue operation after the last person reported missing was found dead on Thursday. On Friday, one more person died in hospital where another 13 people remained under medical care. During the national day of mourning, the Cuban flag flew at half-mast and scheduled events and festivals were canceled.
