





A ceremony to honor the 271 voluntary organizations which participated in the fight against Covid-19 outbreak in Yangon Region was held at the Mingalar Hall of Yangon Region Government Office in Yangon.
Director, Department of Social Welfare, Yangon, Lwin Oo said "During the period of Covid-19, a large number of global people lost their lives and suffered poor health conditions under threats of the pandemic. At that time, we could manage to control the pandemic effectively with the help of the government, volunteers and the relevant organizations. Therefore, we organized this ceremony to honor 4,921 volunteers from 271 voluntary organizations who provided humanitarian services for people who are in need."
Chairman, Shwe Yaung Thamine Organization, Zwe Yan Naing said "Volunteers who provided humanitarian services for the people setting aside their fear during the period of pandemic must be honored. Our Shwe Yaung Thamine organization was established in January 2015 and we have been providing 24 hours emergency ambulance services with 7 ambulances and other rescue services for fire and road accidents in Yangon cooperated with the relevant organizations. We also donate water to places which face water shortage."
Leader, Yangon Region Special Rescue, Win Thu said "Our Special Rescue team was organized with 25 members during the Covid-19 first wave. We have been providing rescue services since then - I am pleased to have been honoured as a volunteer."
Red Cross Commander, Insein Township, Ne Tun said "We have been participating in Covid-19 prevention and control process since the first wave of the pandemic. Many voluntary organizations and red cross society participated in the Covid-19 prevention, control and treatment activities across the country."
At the ceremony, 2007 volunteers from Yangon East District, 940 volunteers from Yangon West District, 579 volunteers from Yangon South District and 1395 volunteers from Yangon North District were awarded with honorary certificates.
