Cotton industry: Workshop for the development of cotton industry held

The workshop for the development of cotton industry was held at the ministry of industry in the morning on Tuesday.

The Union Minister for industry Dr. Charlie Than, responsible officials from the ministry of industry, ministry of commerce, ministry of agriculture, livestock and irrigation, factory in-charges and sub factory in-charges of cotton ginning and textile factories, patron, chairman, vice chairman of Myanmar Cotton and Cotton Products, Merchants and Manufacturers Association, cotton industry entrepreneurs, managing directors from the companies attended the workshop.

In his opening speech, the union minister said that the cotton crop is the vital raw material for the textile industry and the it’s essential crop for Myanmar as well as the world. The chairman of state administration council instructed to extend the cotton growing for the socio-economic life of the farmers, for fulfillment of the domestic requirement of cotton. The ministry of industry has repaired the cotton ginning machines to be ready to use in cotton harvesting period.

The necessary arrangements are being made to buy cottons in tender system. By producing finished products in state-owned textile factories with the raw materials manufactured by the cotton ginning factories and providing necessary raw textile materials for small and medium scale textile enterprises, they can be facilitated alternatively. The participants are urged to give suggestions frankly for the development of cotton industry.

Then, attendees from the ministries, factory in-charges and sub factory in-charges, responsible persons from the cotton manufacturers association and the persons from the companies gave suggestions in related sectors and the union minister gave a speech of conclusion.
