In Costa Rica, anti-narcotics police seized 954 kilograms of cocaine on Sunday that was hidden in a container headed for Belgium. The cocaine was hidden in 29 bags being shipped alongside banana pulp, according to local authorities. Central America is becoming an important transit point for illegal drugs moved by powerful drug trafficking cartels. Drug gangs operate in the area, where they receive shipments of South American cocaine and ship them across the border into Mexico towards the United States or by boat to Europe.
