
Chile's Health Ministry said on Sunday that coronavirus cases dropped by 19 percent in the last week, according to the country's latest report. Lockdown restrictions have become stricter in Chile again, after a partial re-opening appeared to have led to an explosion in cases. Chile reported 5,068 deaths and 263,360 cases.
Residents in capital Santiago are unable to move freely unless they present papers authorizing their movements. As governments in Europe and some parts of Asia have managed to stop the spread of coronavirus, Latin America and the Caribbean have emerged as one of the epicenters of the pandemic. The number of cases in Latin America and the Caribbean has more than tripled from 690,000 one month ago to around 2.5 million.
