





In Myanmar, about 70% percent of the export mainly flow into Thailand and Myanmar-Thailand corn exports was suspended in August 2022 after the agreement ended. The corn export to Thailand will resume in February 2023, the Myanmar Corn Industrial Association stated.
General Secretary, Myanmar Corn Industrial Association, Dr.Phyo Ko Ko Naing said "Myanmar-Thailand corn export has been suspended at the end of August 2022. But it is not a whole complete suspension and it can be exported continuously, charging 72% tax. Due to the high rate of tax, it’s not easy to export anymore with competitive price. The current corn price is escalating a little but it’s not still the regular price yet."
Aiming to promote the whole value chains of corn and corn related business sector in Myanmar, Myanmar Corn Industrial Association (MCIA) is established at 6th February, 2020.
Myanmar is the 2nd largest corn exporter among regional countries and corn is grown the most in Shan, Kachin, Kayah and Kayin states and Mandalay, Sagaing and Magway regions. Also, Myanmar corn production is growing rapidly, driven by the expansion of rain-fed corn growing areas.
During the agreement period, Myanmar exported corn to Thailand under zero-tariff. At present, Myanmar’s corn is being exported to China via border posts and also conveyed to the foreign market such as the Philippines, India, Viet Nam, Laos and Singapore. The prevailing prices of corn move range from 1,000 to 1,030 kyats per viss.
