A coordination meeting to intensify dengue prevention efforts was held at the Department of Medical Research in Yangon on July 18.

Union Minister for Health Professor Dr. Thet Khaing Win attended the meeting and delivered opening remarks.

In his speech, the Union Minister highlighted that dengue remains a serious threat in Myanmar and across Southeast Asia, especially in Yangon Region, Mon and Rakhine States, Ayeyawady Region, and Nay Pyi Taw. He added that the disease spreads through mosquitoes, and its severity depends on virus type. Effective mosquito control methods such as fogging, larvicide use, and public awareness campaigns can help reduce dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases.

The Union Minister stressed that collaboration with the Ministry of Education and other sectors is essential for school- and community-based prevention. He also called for public participation and urged all to actively engage in cleaning, covering water containers, and eliminating mosquito breeding sites. He reiterated that the Ministry has already distributed necessary supplies like Abate, fogging machines, rapid test kits, and medical equipment across regions, while ongoing monitoring of dengue virus serotypes is being carried out in partnership with the National Health Laboratory.
