In the morning of October 21, the Deputy Minister for Health Professor Dr. Aye Tun attended a coordination meeting held at Office No.4 of the Ministry of Health to discuss findings from the review of activities under the HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Program.

First, in his opening address, the Deputy Minister stated that the HIV epidemic persists not only in Myanmar but globally, with varying infection rates across countries. While the overall HIV infection rate has declined across Myanmar, it continues to spread as a concentrated epidemic among key populations.

The HIV infection situation and the affected key populations differ by Regions and States. The Ministry of Health prioritizes HIV/AIDS as a key public health issue. The State has been increasing annual budget allocations for purchasing ART drugs and medical supplies to treat people living with HIV.

For the 2024-2025 fiscal year, 33.600 billion kyats were allocated, and this was increased to 60 billion kyats for the 2025-2026 fiscal year. He added that the findings and recommendations from the current review of Myanmar's HIV infection situation and HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment activities will contribute to the development of the National Strategic Plan for HIV/AIDS (2027-2030).

Following this, the teams involved in the review of the HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Program activities presented their findings and recommendations and engaged in discussions.
