Coordination Meeting: Meeting with Pitaka Translation Editorial Committee held

Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture U Tin Oo Lwin met with the Pitaka Translation Editorial Committee at the External Missions Division under the Department for the Promotion and Propagation of the Sasana, Kabayae Hill in Yangon in the afternoon on Thursday and held coordination meeting regarding with Pitaka English Translation and editing works.

Speaking at the meeting, the Union Minister said that the Pitaka English Translation and editing work was commenced in 1980 under the leadership of the chairman U Nu, the Department for the Promotion and Propagation of the Sasana continues taking responsibilities of the work, the translation editorial committee has been forming as the years of schedule since 1980, from 2021 to date, the Pitakas translation has been editing.

As the responsibilities of scrutinizing and editing has to be carried out under the principle of “To use commonly understandable vocabularies in translating Pitaka into English without deviation from the teachings of the Buddha”, the duty is certainly difficulty and profound and the need of consulting and coordinating to some extent of time is understood.

The Union Minister also added other work responsibilities and processes. Then, the Director General of Department for the Promotion and Propagation of the Sasana clarified work implementations with Power point presentation.

Next, the leader of Pitaka Translation Editorial Committee U Aung Thein Nyunt discussed the requirements for the Pitaka translation process, work implementations and other needs to be done in detail. After that, the experienced Senior persons involved in the translation discussed the needs regarding with the Pitaka English Translation works.

The Union Minister coordinated requirements in responding to the discussions, cordially greeted the members of Pitaka Translation Editorial Committee and inspected the published books. Later, the Union Minister paid homage to the Buddha images conserved as per the era in Buddhist Cultural Museum of Pitaka Repository building.
