Union Minister for Industry Dr. Charlie Than attended and delivered an opening speech at a coordination meeting held to draft the steel policy at the Ministry of Industry, Office No. 30, Nay Pyi Taw on August 25.

In his speech, the Union Minister emphasized the critical importance of a new policy to systematically inspect buildings to ensure they meet the necessary durability standards. This is a crucial lesson learned from the massive Mandalay earthquake that occurred on March 28, 2025. He urged attendees to discuss how the steel policy will be adopted and implemented, and to ensure that all appropriate and necessary points are included to safeguard the lives and property of the public.

Following the Union Minister's speech, presentations were given by the managing director of No. 1 Heavy Industry on the draft steel policy, and by the managing director of No. 2 Heavy Industry on the steps taken to formulate the policy.

The President of the Myanmar Iron and Steel Association and the Vice-President of the Myanmar Steel Entrepreneurs Association also discussed the specifics of the policy. The attendees offered a variety of recommendations on how to strengthen the policy and outlined the necessary steps for its implementation. The meeting concluded after the Union Minister delivered his closing remarks.
