









The Ministry of Industry held a coordination meeting to address the needs of Myanmar’s garment sector on Friday. Union Minister for Industry Dr. Charlie Than attended the meeting and made a speech.
He discussed that the garment industry under CMP ((Cutting, Making, Packaging) system is vital for job creation and foreign income, with 747 factories registered as of July 2025. Between April and June 2025, the sector earned over 1.2 billion US dollar, an increase of 171 million US dollar from the previous year.
The Union Minister urged attendees to discuss ways to tackle the needs and challenges for the sector. Participants discussed current issues, workforce development, and potential solutions. In a separate meeting, the Union Minister discuss the production of roofing sheets for homes damaged by the recent Mandalay earthquake.
He outlined the government plans to provide around 1.83 million roofing sheets, using funds and materials. He mentioned the offer made by local sheet metal producers to donate materials and manufacture roofs for free if raw materials are provided. Officials from the Ministry of Social Welfare and steel industry stakeholders joined the meeting to discuss material needs and production capacity.
