Coordination Meeting: Cooperation for Rice Sector Development

A coordination meeting on cooperation of government and private sector for development of rice sector was held in Yangon on Friday.

Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Tin Htut Oo discussed that it is needed to draft policies for sufficiency of local consumption and export of rice, It also needs to have balance share of benefits for rice producers and those involved in the whole supply chain.

He urged all to make cooperative efforts for exchanging correct data and statistics in timely manner. He also discussed to make quality control for the export of rice based on the production cost, benefits and local market price.

He urged to prioritize for price stability and benefits of farmers, and also to consider for giving burden to low income people due to rice price. Myanmar cultivated over 17 million acres of summer and monsoon paddy, with over 27 million tons of yielding.

During 2021-2022 fiscal year, over 1.2 million tons of rice have been exported. Locally produced fertilizers are being distributed to farmers with reasonable price.
