To prepare for the upcoming tourist season, the government is working with both foreign and private hotel operators to reopen hotels that were temporarily closed due to the recent Mandalay earthquake.

On Friday, Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism and Sports and Youth Affairs Jeng Phang Naw Taung met with officials from HAGL Myanmar, a Vietnamese investment group running international-standard hotel and business projects in Yangon.

They discussed project progress and plans, timely completion of construction, tax and rental compliance, meeting building and service standards, and boosting Myanmar-Vietnam tourism cooperation. In the afternoon, the Minister attended a coordination meeting with officials from quake-hit areas to support hotels under renovation, to help quickly reopen suspended hotels and to ensure cleanliness, service quality, and urban harmony.

He also instructed to ensure that all hotel reopening efforts align with laws and regulations.
