Contract Farming System: Over 850,000 acres of farmland to be carried

In 2022-2023 summer paddy cultivationseason, over 850,000 acres of farmland will be carried out with the contract farming system. 

An official of Myanmar Rice Federation said that if the contract farming system achieves, the per acre yield will increase and the quality of rice will be better. 

Ye Min Aung, Chairman, Myanmar Rice Federation, said " For the success of contract farming, the government, private sector and farmers need to implement systematically and per acre yield will increase and the rice quality will be better. The current support at the rate of 200,000 kyats per acre is not sufficient and actually, about 400,000 kyats to 500,000 kyats are required for per acre according to the current situation of agriculture sector."

The contract farming is the effective system that should be implemented for the development of agriculture sector and that is being undertaken in the internationals. 

Ye Min Aung, Chairman, Myanmar Rice Federation, said " The contract farming system is the cooperative system of company and farmers for loan disbursement. The interest rate is very low and it is also arranged for the inputs that are actually required for agriculture. The countries that are familiar with the agricultural sector and highly developed countries are undertaking with contract farming."

The Chairman of Myanmar Rice Federation added that the contract farming system is beneficial for more production of agricultural sector, production of high quality rice, getting domestic markets and penetrating into more international markets.
 
In 2022-2023 summer paddy cultivation season, the contract farming system will be implemented for over 850,000 acres of farmland. The cash will not be given to the farmers and the strains, fertilizers and diesel priced at 200,000 kyats per acre will be provided through development fund.
