








The National-Level Consultation Workshop on the ASEAN Regional Plan of Action on the Elimination of Violence against Women was convened on the morning of 21st August at the Grand Amara Hotel, Nay Pyi Taw.
The event was attended by Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement and the Chair of Myanmar National Committee for Women’s Affairs (MNCWA) Dr. Soe Win, who delivered the opening remarks. In his address, the Union Minister highlighted that, in line with the Beijing Platform for Action, Myanmar has been implementing two key initiatives including the establishment of the Myanmar National Committee for Women’s Affairs (MNCWA), and the formulation and implementation of the National Strategic Plan for the Advancement of Women (NSPAW).
He emphasized that members of the Working Committee on the Elimination of Violence against Women have been carrying out NSPAW-related programs in accordance with Myanmar’s international and ASEAN commitments. Furthermore, he noted that Myanmar had completed the first stage of the End-Term Review (ETR) process through a National Self-Assessment Survey, in which data was collected from relevant departments and organizations.
The completed report was submitted to the ASEAN Secretariat on 24 July 2025. Subsequently, a pre-recorded video message by U San Lwin, Deputy Secretary-General of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC), was presented.
Following this, Dr. San San Aye, Director-General of the Department of Social Welfare, explained the objectives and expected outcomes of the national-level consultation workshop. During the meeting, representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat provided presentations and discussions relating to the ASEAN Regional Plan of Action on the Elimination of Violence against Women (2016–2025). In addition, technical experts delivered sectoral presentations and discussions, while participants engaged in group work sessions to further deliberate on key issues.
