Constitutional Affairs: Interpretation & Int’l Law & Intersection With Constitutional Building

A 2-day Workshop “Constitutional Interpretation and International Law and its intersection with Constitutional Building” began in Nay Pyi Taw, Monday.

Chairman of Constitutional Tribunal of Myanmar U Myo Nyunt attended the opening ceremony and gave remarks. This is the eighth event organized by My Constitution Program of the International IDEA Myanmar in collaboration with Constitutional Tribunal of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar aiming to provide good democratic constitution and to expand the constitutional experience and knowledge especially in research processes of Constitutional Tribunal. 

Member, Constitutional Tribunal of Myanmar, Kyaw San said “This workshop will share and discuss the principles of international constitutional interpretation and methods of interpretations and also International Law and its intersection with Constitutional Building. Constructional Tribunal of Myanmar was established after the 2008 constitution and is comprised of including Graduate Legal Researchers. So, they can get experience and knowledge from this workshop in implementation of duties and authorities of Constitutional Tribunal of Myanmar.” 

This is first workshop in the year of 2020 - Director from Centre for Constructional Transitions discussed the matters regarding Constitutional Courts in Federal States, Civil & Common Law: the role of judicial interpretation, principles of judicial interpretation and many others – question and answer session is part of the workshop.

Member, Constitutional Tribunal of Myanmar, Kyaw San said “Constitution exists in every nation - there are written constitution and unwritten constitution. So, when we are studying, we need English proficiency. So, Constitutional Tribunal of Myanmar offers English language course and subject matters intensively to the researchers. We have to revise research papers about once a month.”

The Workshop “Constitutional Interpretation and International Law and its intersection with Constitutional Building” is set to be held till the 4th of February.
