The world-renowned, 125-year-old Gokteik Viaduct, which connects Naungcho and Kyaukme on the Mandalay-Lashio railway line, was senselessly destroyed in a non-military-related act by TNLA terrorist insurgents who planted a mine and blew up a section of the bridge.

The entire public has condemned this act, and since August 25, numerous organizations have also released statements strongly denouncing the terrorist act.

On August 26, the Myanmar-India International Entrepreneurs Federation, the Myanmar-India Friendship and Development Association, and the Myanmar Peace and Poverty Alleviation Organization have also released statements strongly condemning the TNLA's terrorist act. These statements describe the TNLA's actions as a foolish and evil act of placing a mine to destroy a historical landmark—the world's highest and largest railway bridge—that is not a military target but is crucial for public travel and trade. They state that they, along with the citizens of Myanmar and all peace-loving ethnic groups, vehemently protest and condemn the act.

The world-famous Gokteik Viaduct is Myanmar's highest and the world's second-highest railway bridge. The blast on the morning of August 24 damaged a 60-foot section of the bridge's iron truss between pier P-16 and abutment AB-2 on the Kyaukme side.
