


A new alley garden was launched between 31st and 32nd street lower block in Yangon with the collaboration of Doh Eain and Yangon City Development Committee, Sunday.
This is the 11th alleyway with the support of the KBZ bank under the theme Inclusive Community Living.
The Alley garden project was started in Yangon in 2016, aiming to demonstrate wasteland into recreation and enjoy for the public space.
Doh Eain has been trying to transform trash-filled alleys into vibrant, inclusive and sustainable community spaces.
Community Engagement Officer, Doh Eain Renewing Yangon, Pyae Phyo Zaw said “We want to work together all residents to create clean environ and to support cohesion social community. Before starting the project, we made survey by collecting data in cooperation with members of parliament, residents, relevant departments and CSOs. We officially handed over the alley gardens to the Development Committee in order to maintain them for the long-term existence.”
The alley garden will be a good recreation and safer space for the elders and children and it will provide sharing space among the communities, said MP from Pabedan Township Constituency-1.
MP, Pabedan Township Constituency-1, Than Naing Oo said “The alley will create better space for the residents. The assistance association for political prisoners, cloud 31st gallery and 30 artists from Myanmar Artists Organization (Pabedan township) support wall paintings, cartoons and posters illustrating human rights. We’d like to convey message to the public that alleys are not for wasteland and avoid from throwing trash and create the backyard for the constructive environ to share space for all.”
The alley garden transforms the space into a healthier environ and supports unity and peace among the residents by sharing space together, said the residents.
Resident, 32nd Street, Lower Block, Aye Win said “I’m very pleased to open this alley garden as we live in apartment. My children have no space for playing. This alley will provide as a playing ground for the children and clean environ.”
Resident, 31st Street, Lower Block, Nyein Pyae Pyae Phyo San said “It’s a very good program as we can enjoy healthy environ in our backyard. Now, there are a lot of paintings and recreation places. I’m very thankful to the responsible officials for creating the better space for us.”
Doh Eain has a plan to demonstrate more cleaned and healthy recreation environs featuring gardens, street arts and children’s playground as well as recycling and composting techniques.
