

A commemorative event for the 2025 International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction was held at the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday.
Chairman of the Disaster Management Committee Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung attended the event and made a speech, emphasizing the damages caused by the Mandalay earthquake, and rehabilitation tasks being carried out by the concerned parties under the guidance of the Head of State.
Highlighting the country's rank in sixth place in the World Risk Index, the Union Minister stressed the importance of implementing disaster risk reduction efforts as priority. This was followed by screening of a video message by UN Secretary General Mr. Antonio Guterres and a video clip on Myanmar's efforts for disaster reduction.
Winners of the commemorative competitions were awarded during the event. The Union Minister and party later took a tour of commemorative photo booth. Myanmar has been observing the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction since 2010. This year's theme for the occasion is “Fund Resilience, Not Disasters”.
