Colombia president orders troops to violence-hit Caribbean city

Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella on Tuesday ordered army troops to the Caribbean coastal city of Santa Marta to oversee a security crackdown against armed and drug-running groups. The chaos followed that the police and air force had killed 13 members of the ACSN, an armed group with roots in Colombia's now-defunct paramilitary movement.

The ACSN is one of the many armed groups that Colombian predecessor Gustavo Petro had engaged in failed peace talks. De la Espriella ended negotiations with criminal factions, pledging a strict military approach backed by the United States.
