Colombia opens major biodiversity summit

Colombia opened COP16, the biodiversity summit hosted in the city of Cali.

Around 12,000 delegates from nearly 200 countries, including a dozen heads of state and 140 ministers, are expected at the 16th Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), which will run until November 1.Under the slogan “Peace with nature”, the summit has the task of devising follow-up and financing mechanisms to ensure compliance with the objectives set by the UN.
